Getting There from around the UK

London is ridiculously well-connected, making it an easy destination whether you’re flying or hopping on a train. Most direct flights from major UK cities take 1 hour or less—blink, and you’re there! If you prefer the train, travel times vary depending on where you’re coming from, but major routes, like Manchester to London, take around 2 hours on the Avanti West Coast.

From the Airport to the City

London has several airports, so here’s a quick rundown of how to get from each into the heart of the city:

  • Heathrow Airport: Hop on the Heathrow Express for a 15-minute journey to Paddington Station, or take the cheaper Piccadilly Line on the tube (45-60 minutes).
  • Gatwick Airport: The Gatwick Express zips you into Victoria Station in about 30 minutes.
  • Stansted Airport: The Stansted Express takes about 45 minutes to reach Liverpool Street Station.
  • London City Airport: You’re already practically in the city—just take the DLR (Docklands Light Railway), which connects to the tube in under 20 minutes.
  • Luton Airport: The train to St Pancras takes 30-40 minutes.
